Home » Menstrual Health Baseline Survey Guide
This evidence-based guidance is the result of eight years of research and innovation in workplace menstrual health. The survey focuses on functional and organisational considerations rather than clinical diagnosis, providing the evidence base to enable employers to make changes based on their employees’ needs and experience, to support wellbeing, inclusion and reduce absenteeism.
The survey has been designed to be adaptable and implemented across a diverse range of organisations and settings (e.g. labs or offices) while maintaining alignment with principles of equality, accessibility, and data protection.
Why?
Our research shows that inadequate organisational support around menstrual health can negatively affect productivity and contribute to higher turnover—impacting both financial performance and organisational reputation. For example, Fawcett Society found that 1 in 10 women who worked during the menopause left their job due to their symptoms.
According to the Employment Rights Act 2025, large employers (250+ employees) will be required to complete a “Menopause Action Plan”. EDICa advises that organisations consider also including “Menstrual Health” provisions and support as it is likely that will be included in legislation and expected to be covered in the future. EDICa suggests that a baseline survey is a useful tool to implement and evaluate menopause action plans and menstrual health policies.
The survey will allow organisations to collect comprehensive, anonymised data on menstrual health, perimenopause, and menopause in the workplace and identify where changes need to happen and inform organisational policy, training, and wellbeing initiatives.
